Four Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) schools — Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i, Waiakea, Kealakehe and Hilo — represented the island at this year’s Zippy Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) Cheerleading Championships on Monday night in Honolulu.
The event was a success for the league, as the BIIF sent just two teams to Oahu in 2022.
Hilo’s was the BIIF’s top overall finisher, scoring a collective 40.533 for a third-place podium finish in the co-ed division. The Vikings’ score was over five points higher than their finish at state last season.
In the all-girls competition, KSH placed the highest of the remaining BIIF teams — posting a 34.617 final score to place eighth overall. Waiakea finished right behind in ninth with a score of 34.250, slightly below its 2022 state score of 34.467. Kealakehe came in 10th with 33.450.
